Crater Lake!

What a wonderful day and amazing weather. Thanks for getting all the kids their on time this morning. The rangers were excellent and had so much knowledge about the animals and geology of the area. The kids were troopers… hiking more than 4 miles and up a good grade to the summit of Garfield Peak…Difficulty: Difficult

Length: 1.7 mi (2.74 km)

Elevation: 7090 - 7976 ft (2161 - 2431 m)…. that’s 900 ft gain… Way to go Dragons!

Be sure to ask you student how the Caldera formed and about the Clark’s Nutcracker… Thanks kids for an awesome day!
Peace and Light,

Mark

  1. Hi my name Caden and I am a Helman 4th grade Dragon. I looked at Garfield Peak and Mark said we had to climb it. Last Monday, we went to Crater Lake with my class. It looked easy but trust me, it wasn't easy. We hiked 5,000 feet. We hiked Garfield Peak. My teacher, Mark, said we had to hike it. I saw a chipmunk.

"Are we almost there?" I said. "Yes," said Mark.

We turned the corner and we were there. I looked and the other class was there. When we got to the top, we ate lunch. I saw a little strip of snow. I almost fell off the mountain.

  2. HI, my name is Mia. I go to Helman School, and I want to tall you 2 things about the trip we took to Crater Lake. I thought it would be as easy as running. (which is easy for ME.) But trust me, it was really hard,I was one of the last people there at the top.

While we were hiking up the mountain there were, uh... I don't say this very often, but the views were beautiful, they were fantastic. I gave Larkin a bunch of heads ups about the photo areas pointing out every amazing view. That was one of my favorite things on the trip, despite how tired my legs were.

This part was on the hike down, and it was absolutely hilarious. So, oh my god I'm laughing while I'm typing this. On the way down, we saw a chipmunk. A small FOUR inch chipmunk. sitting on a small ledge that none of us would be able to sit on. At first I didn't see it. even though I heard someone shout, " A CHIPMUNK, I SEE A CHIPMUNK!!!!!!" I ran ahead to see it, I searched and I couldn't find it and then, I saw it, it was camouflaged on the rock, and it was cute. And then it jumped off the cliff. It was so fun hiking up the mountain. Though I don't plan on doing so any time soon... he. Anyway it was super fun.
    Thanks for listening!!

    MIA.

  3. Hi, my name is Amelia and I am one of the participaints of this trip. Who knew Squirrels liked jumping off cliffs? It was hard. Very, very, very hard. We hiked over 4,000 feet. I think. Anyway it was fun! Also Caden ^ above I beg to differ did not almost fall of the mountain/cliff into the millins and gazzillions of feet of water below. The room here also has very bad wifi so there may be bad spelling in this.
